Informations on Battery Recall Programs

General Hints

We have recently seen several recall programs covering Lithium-Ion and Lithium-Polymer batteries of various manufacturers. This battery type is used in notebooks, PDAs, and mobile phones. Accompanying press coverage showed drastic examples of exploding or melted notebooks, inluding Apple and DELL models. These are few individual cases which have been quoted very often.

In fact, Lithium-Polymer batteries are sensitive to overheating, overcharging or drawing too much current and may react violently. Please follow the vendor's instruction carefully, in particular those concerning cooling and venting of your mobile devices. Batteries covered by these recalls may cause fires even in hibernation state.

Use only power supplies which have been qualified by the manufacturer of your mobile device, especially on cars and airplanes. When traveling, use vendor supplied power cords for your destination country whereever possible or certified power adaptors.

Recall Programs

Here are informations and links to ongoing vendor recall programs. If you own or use one of the notebook models listed here, please follow the links and check the serial number of your battery. Replace every battery covered by the recall (after all, you are getting a new one for free) and dispose the old one properly for the sake of your safety, usually by sending it back to the vendor.
