HP LJIIISi Printer Printing from the Desyguest network segment

Some of the public network printers at DESY can be reached from the guest network. Desy Guest Network Printers
The printers that can be reached from the guest network should have an appropriate sticker on the engine itself, so look out for a marked printer in your building

How to reach that printer from UNIX:

NOTE:
THE HOSTNAME OF THE PRINTSERVER IS: desyguestprint.desy.de

The server 'desyguestprint' provides a RFC1179 compliant lpr interface. All you have to do is connect the server on port 515 and request the queue which is named after the printer. If you work with a lpr/lp based subsystem a printcap entry would probably look like this:

<printer_name>:\
        :rm=desyguestprint:\
        :rp=<printer_name>:\

If you use a CUPS based system use the usual 'add new printer' dialogue and provide the name of the queue which is the printers name and the Hostname of the server

     'add new printer'
      <printer_name>
      Server - Hostname

More information for installing from printers (Cups, Linux, Solaris) can you find on the web pages 'printing from UNIX'
NOTE:
THE VIEW OF THE QUEUES ON THE DESY PRINTSPOOLER MAY BE SOMEHOW LIMITED DUE TO YOUR PRINTING SUBSYSTEM AND RATHER LONG CACHING TIMES OF THE 'LPQ' REQUEST !

NOTE:
DON'T EXPECT YOUR PROPER USER NAME ON THE BANNER PAGE, LOOK OUT FOR YOUR HOSTNAME AND THE USER NAME 'GUEST' OR 'NOBODY'!
