Oracle at DESY - working environment
Oracle client software at DESY is deployed centrally on Unix/AFS and Windows systems.

Testing the connection
Unix/AFS
Supported are on Unix/AFS systems the following operation systems at DESY
Linux (>= DL3)
Solaris (>= Solaris 7)
Old, existing installations on HP/UX, SGI and AIX are merely AS IS deployed.
On the unix platforms you can get the Oracle environment as follows:
$ . oraenv
In this case the following environment variables are set or adjusted:
ORACLE_HOME
TWO_TASK
PATH
LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Windows NT/XP
On Windows NT/XP systems you can get the Oracle working environment by navigating through the following menus:
Start -> NETINSTALL-PROGRAMS -> NETINSTALL -> INSTALLer AND UNINSTALLER -> Database
Then you have to click on the Oracle product you like to install. You have the choice between:
Developer 2000
Oracle Utilities
SQL*Plus
After this step the following registry keys are set or adjusted:
ORA_HOME
LOCAL
NLS_LANG
PATH
Testing the connection
To test the connection to the database, please try the following:
$ sqlplus scott/tiger@desy
Using the command
quit
will finish your Oracle session.
