Deployment of DESY supplied application software with DESY Linux 5

• SuSE. SuSE software is installed in the usual locations, mostly in /usr. These are original packages created and supplied by SUSE.
• DESY IT. DESY application software is installed either locally on your system or in an AFS repository with pointers from your local disk into this repository. Access to this type of application software is provided using the /opt/products directory structure. DESY software is build, customized and supplied by DESY IT; either in Hamburg or Zeuthen.

• RPM naming conventions.RPM names and installation directories need to follow some conventions that are described in Stefan Wiesands talk RPM based Software Maintenance on DESY Unix Systems referenced in the table above. You can check your RPM's conformance with the 'check_prpm' script from /opt/products/sbin. Syntax: 'check_prpm <path to package>'.
